Direct Translation
Stones that are in the water are asking to come on shore; Stones that are on the shore are asking to go into the water.  Some of us never know what we want and so we are willing to trade places thinking that things are better on the other side.
Application
Mary, who has been unemployed for almost a year thought that she would never get another job.  She had prayed for months, been to the gadè a few times and even blamed her enemies for her not getting work.  No more than three months after Mary finally landed a job, she began complaining about it and started calling in sick. “Wòch ki an dlo ka mandé atè; wòch ki atè ka mandé an glo.”
